] and ] are also standbys in any deck that plans to do anything with its creatures. Aside from some very specific decks, this is the first card added to any list at all. ] is maybe the uncontested champion when it comes to not-too-pricey cards that go in every deck. Most decks that can do so also play both ] and ]. Since the format first took off, ] has been a staple, and that hasn't changed. Red doesn't have any cards that I think go into every deck. ] is a cash-cheap way to mitigate the fact that EDH is a singleton format. ] makes sense in almost any deck that can cast it. It costs a few bucks, but it's a one-sided solution to everything at instant speed. ] - It's easy to overload on single-target removal, but you do want some, and this is an affordable card that a gold standard. There are exceptions to every rule, and the rules change if you're playing ultra-cutthroat competitive EDH, but some good staples that fit in lots of decks of their colors include:
